Self-portraits are not as simple as just looking in the mirror and painting themselves. They will be exploring their personalities, their traits, their likes and dislikes, basically, everything that makes them an individual, anything that makes them as a person standout. Right now looking in a mirror and drawing yourself you see part of your face, the rest is blocked by a mask. We are going to essentially create four paintings in one.
In the first painting, the students will have to draw and paint themselves with their masks on, this represents what they look like in school and in public. Their goal with this part of the project will be to show their personality through color, line, shape, and expression in their eyes and hairdos.
The second painting will be what they look like without their masks, they will have to solve "what are my expressions" with the elements of art and with facial expressions.
The last two paintings will demonstrate the past and future. The past painting will be what you looked like pre-COVID, you can pick any age you want. The future painting will demonstrate what you think the future will be, it can be anything from graduation, job, family, etc.
