My resilient second graders come to school everyday ready to learn and give it their best! They are expected to perform academically and socially like second graders but have not been on a school campus since the end of kindergarten. Working independently and on vocational skills is a challenge for them. My goal is to provide organization and structure to help them transition smoothly throughout the day and not waste time looking for the needed materials.
Just the basics! Yep, Sometimes that is all you need! Whiteboards will give my students another way to show their thinking and allow me to do a quick assessment. I currently have a break corner for when students are dysregulated but I would like to add a chair and some sensory tools. Flexible seating is great to get the wiggles out while regulating in the classroom! Because of Covid and distance learning, students are not used to sitting in one spot for long periods. I would like a designated chair for author's presentation to help get student's used to speaking in front of large groups again. When students share they are often shy and hard to hear. I want to incorporate learning activities to encourage a sense of community and safe place to learn. Please help keep my students excited about being back in the class!
