For the Scholastic News and Science Spin, the most important standard is RI5.7, which draws on information from multiple print or digital sources, demonstrating the ability to locate an answer to a question quickly or solve a problem efficiently. I want to use Scholastic News to help students analyze the text and answer related questions. There are many more informational standards that will be taught by utilizing Scholastic News, such as drawing on inferences, I want students to become self-regulated learners by utilizing flexible seating and become critical thinkers by exposing them to informational texts through Scholastic News and Science Spin. I want students to use stadium seats and lap desks to help them self-regulate their learning and increasing their engagement. Stadium seats will be used to create more flexible seating in the classroom. Lap desks will allow students to work throughout the room, thus giving them a different place to work. Lap desks will be utilized for laptops as well. These two resources tie into social-emotional learning.
