If funded this project will help support the students as they learn social skills they have missed out on in the past year and a half at home. Through picture books and games they will learn how to interact with their peers in a constructive way. They will learn social skills that will be needed in and out of the classroom.
Through read-aloud picture books, my students will learn how to identify and manage feelings in a healthy way. Using the picture books I will be able to create lessons that teach diversity and help to reinforce social skills. Using the games, activities, and manipulatives students will be able to learn, play and interact with classmates using hands-on items. Social skills will be reinforced and they will be able to explore community-building activities. (SS.K.1, RL.K.1). Having the use of a color printer will allow me to be able to create visually appealing activities that will help to keep engagement up. Using laminating pouches will enable items to be durable enough to be cleaned thoroughly. I will be able to create resources that are differentiated to meet all students where they are. Storage baskets will enable supplies to be stored in an organized manner. All the items in this project will help to create a good foundation of beneficial social skills while learning through play.
