Reading diverse authors allow today's students to feel a connection to these novels; to feel relevant in today's world.
I believe it is also the teachers job to teach about diversity within all forms of subjects. I want to expose my students to these two amazing authors. They tell stories that prove strength through struggle is universal. My students will be able to grow through the broadening of their minds and the shaking off of labels and expectations; that through struggle can come a clearer understanding of who a person is and who they want or choose to be.
I will use these texts to have my students work on their reading comprehension and writing skills.
