Sensory integration tools and toys allow students to have opportunities to meet their needs in multiple ways and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they have access to personal sensory bins that can be independently accessed as needed without creating disruption to their or other students learning. Having the individual bins also follows COVID 19 school protocols such as not sharing materials. It keeps the staff from having to use products to disinfect items in between students since they never change hands. This keeps our classroom, our students and our staff safe and healthy while individualizing student resources according to their needs. Making sure students are comfortable and have their needs met is an essential component in engaging them in learning. My students are noticeably more engaged in their activities and less disruptive of their peers when they are given an opportunity to be independent in solving problems such as meeting sensory needs.
