My goal is for students to reach maximum learning and growth of the first-grade standards. The items on my list will allow for a supportive environment for students to achieve reading foundational skills rapidly. Nevada Academic Content Standards across the curriculum will be implemented with these items to engage these most deserving students. To name just a few specific ELA standards, they will include RF.1.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print; RI.1.5 Know and use various text features (e.g., headings, tables of contents, glossaries, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text; RI.1.9 Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories utilizing these items with students.
Students will explore the books with the help of sticky note chart paper to read and complete specific, rigorous lessons and activities independently and in groups, while collaborating comfortably on an inviting alphabet carpet. The charging stations will provide students charged chrome books; utilizing electronic menus as needed to do further research, and learning activities directly aligned. While students dig deeper into themes, plots, and making world connections, they will be immersed in an environment supporting positive effects of social and emotional learning in the classroom. Social emotional wellness is my top priority with my students after a long year and a half of virtual learning.
Being in school and in their classroom together again offers much needed face to face learning activities and support. These items are just what we need. Thank you so much!
