My students have had a fantastic time studying organisms in science. So far, they have been studying them to find the difference between aquatic and terrestrial organisms and their needs.
COVID has desensitized a lot of students. In my classroom, I can see some of that desensitization going away now that they have another organism to care for. The end of our unit is approaching, which means that I have to dispose of our fish, snails, crustaceans, mealworms and beetles. I would hate to do this to my students, because I truly see the care they have for these organisms.
I do not have the means to care for these organisms long term. These materials will help me make a permanent home for the organisms in our room. These materials will also help my students continue to use these organisms to learn about the life sciences of the organisms, their life cycles, and their reproduction. This correlates with LS.4.2, and LS.4.1 as they are observing the differences in these two ecosystems.
