Diverse and current literature holds a special place in Room 6. Second graders are always excited to read books they have never seen before. Each new book receives proper attention by teacher and students. We read, reread, discuss, and observe writing, author's message, and amazing illustrations. After each book receives a book study, it is placed in our classroom library. Students may then access these new books during read-to-self time each day. The only problems arise when multiple students want to read the same new books. Then we make deals: when you are done, pass it along. Fostering a love of reading and appreciation for literature is a wonderful part of teaching second graders.
