Nevada Academic Content Standard PE 4.5.1 states that students will participate in various physical activities utilizing the health-related fitness components.
During the COVID shutdown and online learning, physical education attendance in my classes was below 50% and I was unable to effectively teach health-related physical activities. With new equipment that is appropriate to the sizes and ages of my students, I will be better prepared to meet the needs of the younger students in my school who have missed out on so much learning and activity the past few years.
I am focusing on locomotor skills this year in the younger grades, jumping, crawling, balancing, etc. I have stilts and pogo sticks for older students but these are not safe for my little ones. I need equipment that is safe and promotes physical literacy for all students. I will use the tunnel and balance beam to help promote balance and crawling with the locomotor skills.
My students are all different sizes and the hurdles I have are stationary and not appropriate for all students. With hurdles that are adjustable, I can set them to accommodate all students so they are not injured or unsuccessful in their attempts.
The adjustable net will help my students with jumping skills as they jump to hit balls over the net. I have tall nets for my older students, but nothing for my younger students.
I also teach at a small K-8 rural school twice a month and they have little to no equipment. Having equipment that is portable and can be used for a variety of ages and sizes will be helpful to students at both schools.
Thank you for your help with this project.
