During the pandemic and online learning, students were not able to make music as a collective group. Since returning to the classroom, I've noticed that the SEL songs and content I run off my personal iPad have made a huge difference in morale and student engagement. Sadly, my personal iPad is nine years old and is having difficulty running most of the newer programs. This new iPad will be connected to the classroom screen for collaborative composing and will be used individually by students for Project-Based Learning (PBL) activities focused on music and video creation using GarageBand, Staff Wars, NoteFlight, and the iMovie app. These will be passion projects centered on using student compositions and videos for reaching out to the school community as in-person concerts are not an option in our district at this time. The iPad will also be helpful when I need to record virtual lessons or special activities for my students that require advanced editing options. The NVAC standards most closely aligned with my goals include, but are not limited to:
MU:Cr2.3.2 Organize and develop musical ideas
using standard and/or iconic notation and/or
recording technology to document personal rhythmic
and melodic musical ideas.
MU:Cn11.1.2 With limited guidance, demonstrate
knowledge of listen to, sing, perform, and/or respond
to concepts in music from a variety of cultures.
Any help you can offer is appreciated!
