It is my second year of teaching 5th grade and building my classroom library has been high on my priority list. Last year my kids were so excited when we received a large book order through a Scholastic Books campaign, which was a fraction of what this order would be. My first priority was to add books with diverse characters and feature authors of color and I feel like I am off to the right start with that.
I would love to add a variety of books for my students to choose from in my classroom library to encourage all students to love reading!
With more choice of books students can find what interests them to further engage them in the world of books. Reading more is truly the best way to help students be successful with reading in and out of the classroom and prepare them for the years ahead. My group has already shown a love for reading and constantly beg me for extra independent reading time. With this project, I may have to find some extra time in the day to let them just read even more!
