Unfortunately, COVID caused many students, including our fifth graders, to take a step back from many hands-on learning opportunities, especially in reading. Now that we are back learning in person, we want to take advantage of every tangible and tactile learning experience possible!
By donating to this project, you will be helping students break away from the computer screen and provide opportunities to read novels and other great works of literature. There is nothing better that escaping into a new, different world through the pages of a great book. Through exploring different genres of fiction within our classroom library and novel sets, students can examine and explore the components of fiction by applying content standards to great works of literature that students can read independently (5.RL.1-9).
By helping us fund this project, we as a classroom community, can organize books and novel sets by Lexile level and genre as well as by author. As a result of an organized classroom library, students can explore new stories and content easily and efficiently.
As E.B. White wrote, "Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people – people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book." As we recover form COVID and distance learning, we are looking forward to happy times and reading great stories!
