Students need 3 years of math to graduate high school and most of my students have not been successful in math for many years. Two sections of my class are sophomore who failed pre-algebra last year and now have Algebra 1. Their number sense and ability to problem-solve are minimal but we are making progress. With the aid of a calculator, students will be able to have the confidence and mindset to do well on math concepts. As of now, I only have $1 calculators for my students and the operations to calculate are very difficult for my students. With a scientific calculator, my students will be able to gain number sense and learn new concepts. At my previous school district, I had a classroom set of calculators and my students were able to gain confidence, problem-solve, make mistake and learn from them because they had a tool to help them.
