Learning about how math is used in the real world really helps students apply math facts. I like to group them to work on problems and then create projects and discussions.
One project I like to do with them is having them make a food journal and then they log the nutritional facts and then use inequalities describing nutritional and cost constraints on combinations of different foods. (A.CED.A.3-1 )
The students then make posters and share them with the class we like to hang them up around the school for others to see!
