Recently in a precalculus class when discussing inverse functions, the graphing calculator is a powerful tool to determine an inverse and to demonstrate this relationship geometrically. It allows the students to see the relationship via an algebraic rule, a table, or graphically. It also gives student a chance to use function notation and see the relationship at an abstract level.
When teaching calculus, the graphing calculator helps solidify the relationship between a function and its derivative. It is easy to show when a function is increasing or decreasing and how that is translated into the derivative. It also works when working backwards with integration.
