The variety of needs in our classroom requires a variety of activities. Teaching 3 grade levels in one room has its challenges with students varying abilities as well as needs. Even though our classroom has kids in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade, sometimes students need activities that are geared towards their independent work levels and their level of ability and cognitive engagement. Sometimes my students need to revisit phonics skills and early math skills as well as practice cooperative play and problem solving in their small groups. Materials like math file folder games and hands on activities such as letter matching manipulatives, helps my students practice necessary skills. With the language instant learning centers and the math instant learning centers, students will have opportunities to rehearse skills through independent practice. They will get to practice skills like story sequencing, rhyming, comparing numbers, and measurement. With these activities, my students are given an opportunity to feel confident in their learning and engage with fun manipulatives.
