Education is continuously changing every day and with it, teachers need to adapt with the changes of not only curriculum but with students' interests and needs. One thing that stays the same is that children love to PLAY! It is because of this that I am asking help to supply my classroom with a number of different costumes, dress up clothes and science games which will allow my students to not only learn about their community but also science activities in a fun, hands-on approach. Students will be able to collaborate together by becoming community members going to work for the day, communicating with peers, and exploring the world around them with real games and real science tools. This will allow them an up close view of roots, while having meaningful discussions with peers. Due to the pandemic, many students did not have the opportunity to socialize with peers; as well as, this is their first exposure to a classroom setting. This year, I have noticed students are lacking basic skills such as, sharing, talking through disagreements, holding a pencil, waiting their turn, and just basic interactions with peers or adults. It is because of this that through play, students will be encouraged to develop these skills through their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional needs that play will encourage. About my class
