The books will be used for students as their independent reading books and their at home reading logs. Because each student is expected to read a minimum of 150 min weekly, and most of my students are reluctant readers, these books will give them many more options of high interest to choose from.
Because over 3/4 of my students have been non-proficient on state assessments in the past, they need to read as much as possible in order to improve their overall reading scores and prepare for high school next year.
Reading scores will only improve if I offer them books they can relate to. If they won't pick up the book to begin with, they certainly have no chance of reading it. These books are books that my students will happily pick up AND not put down until they have read the last word on the last page!
