With your help in providing these materials and supplies for kindergarteners, they will be able to further explore foundational skills such as phonological and phonemic awareness in small groups (while following social distance guidelines) and on their own (R.F 2.a.) by Demonstrating understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). This in return will advance integration on knowledge and ideas into being able to read fluently later on in the year and is important to develop proficient readers. The math materials will help increase K.CC. A, B,C standards such as counting & cardinality, count to tell how many and comparing numbers.
These basic skills are the foundation as well for building up math skills that will later on build onto other standards such as Geometry (How many sides and vertices on the shape), Measurement (How to read the numbers on a ruler), and addition and subtraction. The need for this supportive materials was heightened during COVID-19 as we could not supply enough materials for each student or couldn't wipe down paper manipulatives. We want to stay safe and make sure supplies are not shared during the day and can be cleaned and wiped down. These materials can do just that and ensure we can have a healthy and safe learning environment.
