Since schools were closed in March 2020 due to COVID19, teachers have tried to increase student learning in a variety of novel ways. Unfortunately, not every student was able to continue on their path of learning, and certainly not at the pace that they would have taken if they had been present in the classroom. The lack of pre-school also impacted my students. In an effort to bridge the learning gap, and motivate and improve the pace of learning for my students with special needs, I need to use multiple activities and modalities for instruction. My students also need instruction in social/emotional skills and interpersonal relationship skills as well as study and organizational skills.
The items I am requesting for my project include materials and activities to teach letter names and letter sounds (Standard RF.K.1d, RF.K.2, RF.K3 RF.K.3a,) to blend sounds to begin to read (RF.K.2b, RF.K.2d, RF.K.3,) and to begin writing (W.K.2, K.CC.A.3). I am requesting materials to teach number recognition and 1:1 correspondence (K.CC.A.3, K.CC.B.5,) to sort and classify objects (K.MD.B.3) and to begin addition and subtraction (K.OA.A.1.) My students require instruction in social/emotional skills and interpersonal relationship skills, and I have included books that will lead to discussions about feelings and emotions (1.ME.K.1, 1.ME.K.2, 4.IC.K.1) and healthy habits (1.PCE.K.1). I am also requesting items to assist with study and organizational skills and encourage fine motor development. Finally, I am requesting small items that will be used as reinforcement for appropriate behavior and work habits.
Since COVID19 and the school closures have taken so many learning opportunities away from my students, I hope to return the joy of learning to these students and bridge the learning gap at the same time. Your generous contribution to my project is greatly appreciated and will make a big difference
