Hands on materials allow students to explore and work together as they learn. I included reading, matching and word building games that students can use with partners. These tools help students meet the standard of "know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words." CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.3 Math manipulatives allow for flexibility and diversity within learners.
Students at any level can succeed while using tools that meet them where they are at in their learning. The math manipulatives in my project will be used to ensure students have number sense and can add and subtract within 10. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.C.6
First grade students are transitioning from a time in Kindergarten when they had a lot more freedom to move around and play, flexible seats aide in this transition. After the pandemic it can be a challenge for students to have the stamina to sit in desks all day, but flexible seats can make learning at a desk more fun.
Providing leveled books for students will support their literacy journey and allow them to practice sight words and phonics patterns! This help students reach the standard "demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes)." CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.2
