My students started school in August in 2021 firmly against reading anything longer than a text message. Now in October 2021 my students try to read ahead of where we are in the text. They are engaged with the text the Uglies in a way they have never seen before. My 9th graders audibly gasp as Tally the main character betrays her friend and jump up in their seat as characters narrowly escape bitter ends. I have had MANY of these students ask me if we can read the rest of the series in class, sadly we don't have time to read all 4 books together in class. I would love the opportunity to foster this new love of reading in my students by giving them access to the rest of the series in my classroom library.
