My students are struggling readers. They have a difficult time learning the letter/sound association needed to decode words. It is also difficult for them to manipulate and blend sounds.
When my students are able to hold objects in their hands while learning the letter/sound association, their memories are strengthened. If a student has difficulty blending 3 sounds into a word, I use the objects from the sound tubs. They learn how to blend sounds to form words by using these objects. They also learn how to segment the sounds of words by pulling these objects in sequence.
