We missed out on a lot of math last year. Our biggest focus is trying to close their gaps in learning for math specifically. We want to create class shirts and as they work to master their math facts (depending on the student it could be addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) they will get a new badge on their shirt that they design themselves and I put on. This addresses standards multiple standards in the fifth grade such as 5.NBT.A.1 & 2, 5.NBT.B.5 and many more as multiplication is in every math practice in the 5th grade. If they do not understand they basic facts, they will struggle to succeed.
We do not want to ;eave pour fabulous readers out either!! For my accelerated readers I want they to achieve the ARL reading minutes. They will recieve a millionaire shirt when they complete the million words in the year.
Math and reading are our success stories as teachers and we need more successes!
