To be college and career-ready, students must grasp concepts in literary texts and apply themes and symbols to real-life scenarios. Including a diverse selection of texts in my curriculum will engage a broader range of students and help me guide them to master standards like RL8.1 and RL8.2 which provide the foundation for 9th grade literary standards. By pairing some of the texts on my list with the novels I currently teach in class, I will be able to diversify and broaden each lesson I teach. Students will be given a wealth of resources to improve their literacy skills.
