By being able to access alternate, optional district-approved texts, I can expand my students' comprehension and appreciation for genres, styles, and ideas that will build bridges to pre-existing texts and learning. Some of the elements will also assist in supporting vocabulary acquisition and retention.
Additionally, there are some map elements (posters) to assist students in reading, creating, and interpreting maps and other visual-spatial concepts.
Finally, some elements will support social-emotional learning by providing further opportunities for collaboration, discussion, and a communal effort in spoken reading and listening.
