The materials requested include things like tools and activities to improve social-emotional learning and mental health. Our school has seen a decline in appropriate social skills and behaviors as well as an increase in mental health concerns. This is largely due to the impact COVID has had on our families and students remaining at home for over a year.
As the School Social Worker, these materials will be utilized for classroom push-in lessons, small groups, and one-on-one interventions to improve social-emotional learning skills as well as mental health. The materials also include books to ensure that the interventions being utilized are evidence-based while also being engaging and fun for our population. While academics are the focus in our schools, students are only able to learn when their environment is conducive to doing so. Improving these skills will decrease maladaptive behaviors and improve over mental health that our students so desperately need.
