My Students are struggling in all academic areas. As a self contained special education classroom for students with emotional disturbances, my students have a wide variety of ability levels and needs. Some of my student are struggling with foundational concepts such as the number system, (M 6.NS) and cannot Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division knowledge due to inability to master new skills or activate prior knowledge. Other students are struggling to Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says (ELA RI 7.1). Regardless of what troubles they are having academically, their emotional wellbeing is in a continued state of heightened response. They could benefit greatly from having access to alternative seating options (bouncy chairs and a reading couch) and inspirational posters. As a self contained classroom, our classroom teaches reading, math, writing, social studies, science, and social living skills. These items would help my students in all of these areas.
