Coming back from the pandemic and learning from home for over a year, students have been very eager this year to jump back into the classroom and grow. Our classroom needs to have some updates on our books, as not many of the books are reaching student interests and some are not at the correct level of the students. Having students pick a book that interests them and is at their level will improve their fluency, comprehension, and their love for reading. Now that we are in 4th and 5th grade, the goal is for students to feel confident to pick up a chapter book, enjoy it, and want to continue to read, instead of it feeling like a task that must be completed. We will use them for in-class independent reading time, as well as taking the book home if they are in need of a book. Upon returning to class, students will have completed a reading log to keep track of what they are reading, their understanding, as well as their progress in reading levels.
