Waves are a difficult thing to teach without hands-on knowledge. The slinkies and the ropes will be used to demonstrate specifically what Transverse and Longitudinal waves are. The NGS Standards referenced in Unit 3 are MS-PS4-1, MS-PS4-2, and MS-PS4-3
Students will be able to make these waves themselves which will help them understand the concept much more than just taking notes or looking at diagrams. This is a unit that is much easier to understand when you have real-life experience with these concepts.
The record player will be used to show analog sound waves. Standard MS-PS4-3 describes the difference between analog and digital waves. I wanted to show the students firsthand a way analog waves are made.
