Organization coupled with student-friendly surroundings allows students to take charge of their learning and make choices that work best. During independent work times, they can choose a location in the classroom that works for them to either read or work on their Chromebook. My students love sitting or laying on the floor to read their novels. The rug will provide a comfortable learning space for them. Their Chromebooks need to be ready and charged at all times and we do not have enough outlets, room, or chargers available. The charging stations I am hoping to get funded would make this such an easy transition for my students. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they have options and their Chromebooks are ready to go at all times. It is important that they have Chromebooks organized and easy to access, and of course, charged at all times!! As far as the novels I am asking for, if you haven't read Edward Tulane, put it on your reading list! It teaches empathy, love, and patience through the eyes of a china rabbit that is thrown into many life upheavals like some of our students are in their young lives. It is THE most touching book and it evident in the eyes of my students when they read/listen to the book. It also reinforces their love and trust in the beautiful journey that reading can provide. One of my goals is to create lifelong readers. Having an organized classroom where my students can locate their materials easily and effortlessly promotes ease of classroom management and contributes to the FLOW of our classroom.
