My project helps students with social skills and self-regulation. Students lack the ability to get along with others, persevere when presented with challenging tasks, and self regulate now more than ever. My project focuses on increasing students' social, emotional and academic development. It focuses on the competencies of self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness. It will help students learn the necessary skills to get along with others at school, not give up when presented with challenging tasks, and therefore have a better attitude about themselves, others, and school. What better way to do that than with books? I love to read stories to my students that have characters who have overcome challenges and adversity. The material that children watch on TV and/or social media lacks the skills necessary to grow into kind and successful students. We are seeing effects of that on a daily basis. Unfortunately, my students need to be taught these skills at school. In addition, my students lack self-regulation skills necessary to be successful in their general education classrooms. They need tools that will help them focus and participate in class lessons. Part of the materials in my project will give them the tools necessary to stay regulated throughout the school day.
