The supplies I requested in this will help my prealgebra students with standard 8.b.f.4 which states, "Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (x, y) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values." The whiteboard markers and sweatbands will allow students to practice these skills on the whiteboards hung in my classroom. This activity allows students to get up and move in class. I can easily check student work and correct mistakes.
I also ordered geometry kits to help students with standard G.CO.D.12 which states, "Make formal geometric constructions with a variety of tools and methods (compass and straightedge, string, reflective devices, paper folding, dynamic geometric software, etc.). Copying a segment; copying an angle; bisecting a segment; bisecting an angle; constructing perpendicular lines, including the perpendicular bisector of a line segment; and constructing a line parallel to a given line through a point not on the line." There are enough kids for each student so that they can practice their constructions at home as well as in the classroom.
The patty paper will allow students to practice transformations in class as well as at home. Pre-Algebra standard 8.G.A.3 Geometry standard G.CO.A.5 -
The additional rulers, markers and colored pencils give all students the opportunity to add their personality to notes and projects.
