As a new teacher and my first year teaching, I do not have many materials that my colleagues have. Many of my walls are empty, and my environment is not as inviting as many other classrooms are. I teach students that have specific learning disabilities, ADHD, and other special needs. As a special education teacher, I seek to offer my students many modes of learning, avenues of success, and different possible ways to learn.
My students would benefit greatly from access to educational and motivational materials on display in my classroom. Things such as conjunctions, contractions (this would align with standard ELA 6.4, and ELA 7.3.D), and in some cases, the alphabet, would help them be able to succeed in many different assessments and classroom activities. Further, adjusting back to school has been a very, very difficult thing for many of the different students I teach. Things such as sitting at a desk all day were difficult for this demographic prior to the pandemic, but now it is borderline impossible for some students to focus in an uncomfortable seat. I wish to offer my students flexible seating choices to help them adjust back to daily face-to-face instruction.
