Currently, our classroom has a very small and unattractive library corner. The goal is to give my students an organized and inviting area to motivate them to read. It is very difficult to motivate my students to engage in literacy activities because most of them are unable to read. I have so many books from our alternative curriculum ready for them to read but students would rather participate in preferred tasks. I’ve been wanting to revamp the reading corner so my students will have a comfortable place to read during independent reading time or even want to work for time in the reading corner. Because our library is rather small we don’t have space for bookshelves and the roller cart we have now takes up too much room. My plan is to use the book bins to organize our books by category using pictures on the outside of the bins. This will allow me to get rid of the cart we have now and make the carpet area more inviting by using the beanbags and tactile pillows to bring the corner to life.
