Color Guard is an extra curricular sport, it fulfills PE credits for graduation when students participate in multiple seasons as well as meeting Humanities exposure through musical performance, some of the Nevada PE standards it fulfills are 1.12.1 Demonstrate proficiency in multiple movement forms in physical activities; 1.12.2 Perform manipulative skills in combination with locomotor and/or nonlocomotormovements in a variety of environments and under a host of conditions; 2.12.2 Analyze strategies used in physical activity
settings to improve movement skills; 2.12.3 Demonstrate safe practices for self and others while participating in physical activities; 3.12.3 Demonstrate opportunities at school for regular participation in physical activities;
As a small school we've had extreme difficulty in receiving funding for our shows including uniform needs, makeup and costume, and sound/speaker equipment so that we can practice outside as well as indoors depending on the competition venues selected this year. We need the skirts to match our school colors and make it easier for them to represent Dayton High in uniform.
My students are extremely eager to get up to a competitive level and feel proud of the show we can put on. They selected the Greek Mythology theme, inspired by their ELA 9-10 classes, and have submitted choreography and costume item requests. They are extremely creative and driven, I am excited to help them with this show. The items required for 12 girls on my team adds up from face paint, fabric for costumes and so on, and I will have to pay for this myself if I cannot reach the funding we need.
