Having a class pet has many benefits, including helping with anxiety, stress reduction, self-esteem and empathy. I have experienced students getting in tune with their creative side. Their ability to imagine things and think outside the box with just looking over at the class pet. It has been observed and tested that students enjoy cuddling with a class pet and have a significant academic improvement. This is just a little incentive for their improvement and encouragement. I want to try all options for my students to begin to believe in themselves.
