Math centers are my students' second-favorite part of their day because they get to engage with concrete items by building, manipulating and combining to dig deeper into math concepts. Learning comes alive when they get to utilize manipulatives to learn. Through math centers, my students get to explore to learn all while developing their skills in all four common core strands--algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, measurement and data, & geometry. They get to practice one math center from each strand each week to practice and refine concepts.
But their favorite part of the day is read aloud time--the math read-aloud books paired with the math centers will be a dynamic way to engage my students in math concepts and see how math applies to real life. I cannot wait to see their faces when they get to use the Magna-Tiles and LEGOs to build foundational math skills!
