OSMO is a perfect manipulative for center activities in the first grade classroom where students can engage in math, science, reading and other teacher created activities all using the same manipulatives. The Kindle Fire Tablets work in tandem with the OSMO system which is essential. Kindle can also be used for electronic library books for reading center, access to their canvas coursework can also be utilized through Internet connectivity. There are 7 learning games with this product each utilizes either number or letter responses along with an option for critical thinking with tangram puzzles. Students can work on letter recognition, sight word development and forming sentences along with phonics games that can be played competitively with their classroom peers. Number sense can be reinforced with a variety of number games as well. The focus on literacy is to help facilitate the mastery of phonics, sight words and word formation to promote emergent reading skills with students who need additional reinforcement. These manipulatives can easily be sanitized between student uses which is perfect for post-COVID classroom conditions. Students enjoy customized teacher activities that can be uploaded and pushed out to the devices for student engagement. These devices facilitate peer engagement with safety in physical distancing. Which means for this grant my classroom students can collaborate and learn with their peers in small center activities that support Covid physical distancing requirements for sanitation and health safety.
