The materials for Clayton's Calming Corner will be used to create a safe, calming space in the counseling and wellness center for students who need to regulate their emotions and manage behaviors. The opportunity to take a few moments away from the classroom to deescalate anxiety, stress, and fear, which is often presented as anger, will support my students to successfully reenter the learning environment. The effects of COVID-induced distance learning have hindered many of my students' ability to self-regulate their emotions and behaviors which impedes their learning. Providing multiple strategies through the variety of tools requested will allow me to reach the diverse needs of more students. Many of the strategies I will be able to teach my students will crossover from school to home. This social and emotional learning will help my students to become more self-aware of their needs and empower them to self-regulate for whole-person success.
