Like myself, many of my students learn better when they have the option to choose where they can sit and work. Flexible seating has proven to be an effective way to help students find comfort and joy in learning.
Whether they are working independently or collaborating with a peer, offering flexible seating to my students will make our classroom a more engaging and comfortable place! This allows them to have a choice in how they learn and decide what works best for them; while also minimizing behavior issues and decreasing stress for those students who have a hard time focusing.
I also want my students to develop a love for reading. Wonder is a class read aloud that I have read to all of my fifth graders for the past five years (this is my sixth year teaching). Providing high interest, quality texts is so important. I would like to have a classroom set this year to have my students read with partners and have self directed book club discussions.
