Students who come to me distressed, overwhelmed, and/or anxious need a safe place to feel grounded again. The materials I am requesting help me teach grounding techniques and create a space that will relax my students senses. Picture walking into a room with a soft light where you smell a pleasant citrus scent. You see a soft glowing light fade from one beautiful color to the next. You look around and see positive affirmations on a bulletin board and begin to believe you will overcome your distressing feelings.
The Dammit Dolls are for students to express their feelings of frustration and/or anger. The Zen Gardens are for students to calm their mind and focus on making patterns in the soft sand versus ruminating on their responsibilities and obstacles. Everyone needs a brain break at some point in the day and for some students my office is the only place they can come in an express themselves without judgement.
