Our school recently had a classroom made available with work tables that would make an ideal location for students of all grade levels (k-8) to investigate and build STEM projects. This space would allow teachers to encourage creativity, hands-on learning, social skills and collaboration among students. I envision the space similar to what a children's museum offers for students, to take on a specific challenge activity to solve. Students will build and create solutions using gears, magnets, batteries, rubber bands, levers, light bulbs, switches, etc. (depending on particular challenges). They will graph results and compare problem solving techniques.
The sciences and math will be explored at various levels so that all students can participate. Students will build erupting volcanoes, electrical circuits, catapults, transportation vehicles. etc. If they can imagine it, they can build it.
