Every teacher wants their students to be reading. I want my students to be able to read and comprehend literature (ELA RL5.10) and not just because they have to but because they learn to have a love of reading. Practicing reading and comprehension are lifelong skills that every student needs.
The book Wonder really focuses on telling a story from a speaker's point of view (RL5.6.) I will be able to use this novel to ask students about each character's point of view and even to compare how another character felt or thought about certain situations. We can even discuss and write summaries about how students can have empathy for others as well.
