All of my students are from low-socioeconomic background. I work in a Title 1 school, where my students are struggling to keep up with the information I teach everyday. They don't have the background knowledge to compare books, nor do they have home libraries to help them expand their vocabulary. Students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds often have difficulty if instruction presumes middle-class experiences. Other students may have learning difficulties stemming from linguistic or cultural differences. The materials I have chosen are books from their culture and background. The books would be an excellent resources that they relate to and it will also help them gain a high-quality education and the skills to master the Florida Standards.
