These 10 guitars will be used by students in grades 4-6 during upper grade elective rotations, slated to begin in late January. These instruments will make a difference in my students' learning in that they will provide a healthy outlet for musical creativity and expression.
Our school has a large population of students from low socioeconomic homes. Many students are exposed to violence, gangs, and unstable home lives.
Music -- if nurtured -- can be an alternative to myriad negative influences in the lives of these young people. Playing guitar requires patience and discipline, skills that can serve one well in life.
I hope to plant that seed that sparks and inspires years of interest in music!
