Tablets are a great tool for education and communication, which is one of the many reasons I would like to have a classroom tablet. The world for an autistic child is full of imagery, rather than words. On a tablet, my students can create a sentence or even a story using a series of images. By doing so, they can communicate with me without frustration. More importantly, a tablet has a direct touchscreen so no mouse or stylus is required. Apps are easily organized, predictable, and accessible. Additionally, apps help break learning down into discrete chunks and topics.
I also chose some sensory items for my classroom. When you engage autistic students in sensory activities, it is beneficial in several ways, as it can help with: Stimulating the brain, creating neural pathways, and improving sensory processing systems. Essentially, it improves daily function in children with autism.
