I teach students who are intellectually disabled and they learn best through hands-on activities. I teach 3 periods of Math and Science. These students build knowledge through varied activities that apply to real-life learning. I run rotating centers using math games and hands-on learning. The goal is to create independence for each learner.
We teach our students math in preparation for adult living and being a responsible citizen who contributes to the local economy. These math skills are also job skills for any working environment.
I teach technology and each student has access to the educational curriculum and each student must have independent access to their laptops.
I have designed my classroom using learning stations that are job-task-related. These students need every hands-on learning experience in a diversity of applications to effectively become functional.
