The materials chosen in this project will be utilized within the school. A separate sensory room, located next to the main educational classroom has been in process of development by the classroom staff and related service providers. All equipment and items currently in the classroom were purchased by the classroom staff and providers.
The specific sensory and therapeutic equipment on our wish list will be used initially in an exploratory way; to determine what types of sensory needs each student has and learn how to effectively utilize the equipment for each individual student to then assist them in more actively engaging in their educational environment weather that means calming the students so that they can sit quietly and learn or even excite the student so that they are more alert and ready to learn.
Once the most effective sensory needs are established for our students, we can then report our findings to the families so that similar strategies can be utilized at home.
